Huawei Honor 8 complete review : specs and features test results

Yesterday, we presented to you the beginning of our comparative between Honor 8 and its main competitors. Today, you can find here the other and last part with a review about its performances, camera and battery capacity.

Huawei Honor 8 Performances

Under its body, Honor 8 will board a data sheet worthy of high-end smartphones of the year. Most precisely, it will have a SoC Kirin 950 at 8 hearts and 3 or 4GB of RAM, in its Chinese version.

This configuration, we already met it at the beginning of the year on an other smartphone : Huawei Mate 8. And if we believe in our benchmarks, it’s one of the most powerful smartphones of the year, particularly in greedy games. Thus, the mobile board a « futur-proof » configuration and should be able to hold few years without any problem.

In front of it, we find also high-end configurations. Let’s have a quick talk about Nexus 5X. This last one has a 2015 high-end configuration, but is fairly remote from OnePlus 3 and Galaxy S6. These two devices have very good chips. For the first one it’s a Snapdragon 820, the best of high-end chips of Qualcomm with 6GB of RAM, and the second have an Exynos 7420 and 3GB of RAM. About performances, they are virtually neck and neck.

Huawei Honor 8 camera

When Honor 8 has been announced, lots of medias denounced a Huawei P9 copy. They are not totally wrong, because Honor 8 has one of its bigger originalities : the double camera sensor. If we just look the data sheet, the two mobiles have the same camera sensor, two 12mp sensors from Sony. The first one is for colors pictures and the second one for monochrome images. The only difference between these two devices is the certification Leica for the P9 and not for Honor 8.

In camera domain, the competition between our three other smartphones is harsh. Whether concerning Nexus 5X and its very good camera of 12 mp or OnePlus 3 and its 16pm sensor, the two devices are doing very well. But it’s with Galaxy S6 that competition will be harder, because its 16mp photo sensor makes it today one of the best camera phone of the moment.

Huawei Honor 8 battery

Since we don’t have yet the official Honor 8 data sheet for now, we won’t guess its battery power. We just know it will board a 3000 mAh battery, same as Huawei P9. A capacity we find on the OnePlus 3, which could hold a bit more than a day in a classic use.

We can safely say that its battery capacity should be better than Nexus 5X or Galaxy S6. The two devices are indeed known for their poor battery capacity. And the Galaxy S6 particularly with its 2550 mAh battery, which can’t hold more than a day without be charged.

Conclusion

On the paper, the Huawei Honor 8 has everything or almost of a high-end smartphone. Between its design « 2016 trend » mixing glass and metal, its data sheet able to compete with high-end devices and its double camera sensor, it’s very promising. All the more so we expect a low price in view of its data sheet.

Like every high-end smartphone sold at slashed price, we will have to check it hasn’t annoying details. To reach that price, Honor will have to make accommodations somewhere. So we must wait its test to check the completions, camera and screen qualities.

Huawei Honor 8 test : price, display, specs and features

Honor 8 just be announced in China with a vigorous data sheet and a launch price very attractive. While the phone should be launched in India in few weeks, it’s interesting to know now what are its main competitors. In other words, does Honor 8 the new mid-range market smartphone baseline ?

Which smartphones could be compete with Honor 8 ? If we take the price as baseline, comparaison is hard because we don’t know its exact price in India. In China, it will be sold between Rs. 22,190 and Rs. 27,740 according to RAM (3 or 4 GB) and storage capacity (32 to 64 GB).

Thus, we made the choice to compare Honor 8 to the best value for money on the market OnePlus 3, sold at Rs. 29,550. We also compared it to Nexus 5X (sold currently about Rs. 22,190) and to Galaxy S6 sold around Rs. 29,590.

For this first part of comparative, we’ll see design and screen.

Honor 8 Design

It’s almost the first time for Honor, its last smartphone let down the whole metal to model new Samsung high-end smartphones. Honor 8 should dispose of metal slices, but with a glass black. Two points have to be noticed : Honor 8 has a fingerprint digital sensor at its back and board a USB-C port. About its face, it’s a simple Huawei P9 copy, with it shares a lot of common features by the way. Lastly, let us remind its dimensions : 145,5 x 71 x 7,45 mm for 0,34 pounds.

In response, the only smartphone displaying as much arguments is OnePlus 3. Between its USB-C port, its full metal body and its fingerprint digital sensor, it has a careful design.

Less so for Nexus 5X with its plastic cover and disappointing touch, and Galaxy S6 which doesn’t have micro-SD card port.

Honor 8 Screen
Huawei - Honor parent company - has always been honest about the screen subject : there is no discussion of 2K screens (or QHD), displays judged both useless and too greedy.

It comes as no surprise that screen is « only » full HD 5,2-inch on the Huawei Honor 8. The same configuration as Huawei P9. Hopefully, Huawei will keep the possibility to fix colors screen.

For competitors, it’s more or less the same thing. Both OnePlus 3 and Nexus 5X have a 1080p screen. For the first one, it’s an Amoled screen with saturated colors recently fixed. For the second one, display is one of the weakness with bad brightness and colour rendering.

Finally, concerning Galaxy S6, it’s surely the best screen on this comparative. It boards a Super Amoled QHD screen with excellent colors. It’s maybe not as controlled as Galaxy S7, but was one of the best displays last year. It has also a strong point which Honor 8 doesn’t have : it’s QHD screen, perfect to test virtual reality.

Stay tuned for further evaluation with a comparative on performances, camera and battery capacity.

High-end smartphone prices are soaring. Chinese manufacturer distinguish themselves with their value for money. OnePlus manufacturer would prepare a phablet worthy of Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Smartphone market is dominated by giants Apple and Samsung. But Chinese manufacturers start to plays their cards. They propose high-end smartphones with competitive prices. OnePlus is the perfect exemple : its smartphone display impressive data sheets and are very less expensive than competitors. Thus, OnePlus products has won the « flagship killer » title ! Chinese would be prepared to go further penetrate the phablet market.

OnePlus 3 : the reference of high-end with small price

Launched on July 14th, OnePlus 3 is a Chinese smartphone which has everything from the bigger. Its data sheet includes an Amoled full HD 5,5-inch screen, with a Snapdragon 820 chip and 6GB of RAM. Its camera sensors are worthy with 16mp at the back and 8mp at the front side. Delivered under Android 6.0 Marshmallow, OnePlus 3 possess 64GB of expendable storage.

For its flagship killer, OnePlus adopted USB Type C connection. This last one allows notably to recharge the 3000 mAh battery. Its Dash Charge system do better than Galaxy S7 QuickCharge and offers 60% of battery in 30 minutes.

Finally, OnePlus 3 specs present a fingerprint sensor to strengthen security. The whole at Rs. 29,900.

OnePlus 3 : after smartphones, tablets ?

OnePlus 3 displays price twice as low than Galaxy S7 Edge at launch. For this, with its features, it deserves well its « flagship killer » title. But OnePlus would deal with smartphones giants on the tablet front. A new data sheet leaked on the web. She resumes which one of the OnePlus 3, which one important difference, an imposing 6,1-inch screen. In view of its value for money, OnePlus 3 phablet version should have a big success. In particular in Asia where big format smartphone are very appreciate. Galaxy Note 7, which be launched on August 2, seems have found its competitor. All the more so as OnePlus could recover unsatisfied customers of the Korean phablet curved screen.

Moto G4 plus : all you have to know after its launch !

Moto G4 plus launch :
latest news and images

Motorola is done. Instead, a Moto range signed by Lenovo, the leader brand of the old American firm. She presents today the Moto G4 plus, a more upmarket model than Moto G4, which she describes like an excellent value for money. Let’s see this.

Contrarily at the 3rd generation Moto G, Moto G4 plus adopts a mid-range market data sheet. Old models HD makes room for a 5,5-inch full HD screen, with a 617 Snapdragon and, for the design, finally more finesse. In a nutshell, we feel a real move upmarket with two notables options : a fingerprint scanning and a quickly charger.

Moto G displayed an acceptable value for money, but a design less inspiring. Well conceived for good quality, they were massive with a thickness exceeding one centimeter. There is no revolution with the Moto G4 plus, but some significant details have to be noted.

First, Moto G4 plus is only 7,8mm of thickness, registering on market standards. It’s surely bigger with 15,3cm against 14,2 for the 3rd generation Moto G. For back, Lenovo opted for a supple and striated plastic casing, for a « peach skin effect ». This material confers grip in the hand to the smartphone, even if it’s a bit dirty.

Camera is the main strength highlighted by Lenovo. Its smartphone is indeed endowed with a 16 megapixel camera, combining a laser adjustment and a phase detection clarification. Like in high end smartphones, Moto G4 plus proposes a powerful HDR automatic mode. Moreover, the refined camera application contain a professional mode destined to the settings amateurs.

The last good surprise is its autonomy, with 3000 mAh battery, providing convincing results. We can expect an operating life until two days.

Concerning others Moto G4 plus specs, it has 2GB of RAM, an Android 6.0 system and a Qualcomm graphic chips. All of this for Rs. 17,275. In our judgement, you can go buy it eyed closes.

We will find also two 16 and 8 millions pixels photo-sensor, with a 3000 mAh autonomy. The whole will be contained in a nice metal hull. Like the previous one, the fingerprint scanner will be contained  on a Home button placed just below the screen.
After two models offering both a similar conception, the society should inaugurates a new design with its next killer flagship. Pei has confirmed it before on an interview, and previews published on December let know that the society is actually exploring others directions.
After all, one question is still in the air : how much ?

One plus 3 price

Carl Pei, One Plus co-fundater, lets know that it should launch four versions of its smartphone, for various prices, which be explained by storage capacity and materials used.

Basic version should be marketed at 24,280 INR, for 4GO RAM and 32GO storage. The first variant could present a double storage capacity with 64GO, at 25,440 INR.
